• What is the difference between 1 mil blue tape and 2 mil green tape? While both tapes use a silicone adhesive rated for 400°F, blue polyester tape uses a thinner 1 mil carrier. This makes it more conformable for masking complex geometries, curved surfaces, and fine-line detailing. green polyester tape (2 mil) is slightly more rigid and is generally used for flat surfaces or for masking larger areas.
• Does this tape leave a residue after being in the oven? No. Our VBT series is engineered with a high-grade silicone adhesive specifically designed to withstand heat without softening or transferring to the part. Can VBT blue tape be used for anodizing?For best results, we recommend removing the tape while the part is still warm.
• Can VBT blue tape be used for anodizing? Yes. The polyester carrier provides excellent resistance to acid and caustic baths used in anodizing and plating processes. To achieve the cleanest lines, we recommend applying the tape to parts 24 hours before the anodizing process.
• Is this tape a suitable 3M 8991 alternative? Absolutely. The VBT series matches the technical specifications of 3M 8991, including the 1 mil backing and 1.4 mil adhesive thickness (2.4 mil total), offering comparable performance in powder coating and splicing applications.
• Can I order custom widths for pinstriping? Yes. Viadon slits all tapes in-house from 58" log rolls. We can provide any custom width starting from 1/8" (0.125") to meet your specific pinstriping or industrial requirements.
