Flangeless Plugs

Sometimes masking needs something more than just a standard tapered plug. Perhaps you need a litlte bit more friction. Maybe the hole has a slightly unique configuration. Or perhaps the hole to be masked is recessed in another hole, and it is difficult to insert/remove a standard plug.

Enter the flangeless plug. Not only do these masks have a handle on them, there are a couple of other helpful features to them as well. One, they have a ribbed design. This helps them to be forced a little more snugly into threaded holes. The other is that they are made from a slightly harder durometer silicone rubber. So they can be pushed into holes a little more tightly. This may help when air is likely to be trapped behind them, and a heat source of the metal finishing process causes pressure inside the part.

Check out this short video for a look at how flangeless plugs are designed and work.
