STP-H - Silicone Tapered Plugs with Handle

  • STP-H Silicone Tapered Plugs with Handle
  • Powdercoaters, anodizers and other metal finishers need a wide variety of
standard tapered plugs to mask the range of holes found on metal parts to be
finished. Viadon stocks plugs that can mask holes as small as 1/16 inch up to 4.75 inch
                                            in diameter.

Silicone Tapered Plugs with Handle, 600°F (powder coating, e-coating, anodizing, plating, painting, and thermal spray applications)

Viadon's Silicone Tapered Plugs with Handle (STP-H) make plugging small holes faster and easier. The added length allows for fingers large and small to quickly grasp the handle and insert / remove these smaller plugs. The handle also allows a quick "twist" to push plugs in a bit further and with more friction, helping to avoid blowouts in components that are heated and trap air beneath the plugs. Made from fully cured silicone to avoid leaching into plating tanks, tapered plugs are perfect for just about any metal finishing situation, including powder coating, e-coating, plating, and anodizing.

These plugs can withstand temperatures up to 600°F / 315°C and are clear so they contain no potentially harmful coloring agents.

  • Masking 101 Helpful Hints

Silicone Tapered Plugs with Handle (STP-H's) are an easier way to insert and remove very small tapered plugs. Most often a tapered plug is used to plug blind holes that do not go all the way through a part. Ideally, the plug should rest on the edge of the hole 1/3 to 1/2 way from the bottom before insertion, to allow for easiest removal. The included handle makes working with these plugs simpler, and can speed up the masking process.

    • STP-H's are ideal for use in powder coating, e-coating, plating and anodizing.
    • STP-H's offer excellent high temperature and good chemical resistance.
    • Bottom diameter should be 15% smaller than the hole diameter, for best fit.
    • Top diameter should be 15% larger than hole diameter, to ensure enough plug is outside of hole to aid in removal.
    • Add a slight twisting motion when inserting to achieve higher friction and better "hold", especially in deeper holes that can trap volumes of air that expand when heated during some cure processes.
